In My Verizon online or in the My Verizon app, go to Devices, Manage Device, and select the line you want to activate on eSIM. The eSIM or activation section should display or request your Verizon activation QR code. If the original Verizon code has already been used, Verizon support must issue a new one.

Can I reuse an eSIM QR code?

No. eSIM QR codes are single-use. Once you scan the code and activate your eSIM profile, the activation token is invalidated by the carrier's SM-DP+ server. If you need to transfer your eSIM to a new device, contact your carrier for a new activation code.

What happens if I lose my eSIM QR code?

If you've lost your eSIM QR code, contact your carrier's customer support so they can invalidate the old code and issue a new one. Most carriers can reissue a code via support chat, phone support, or account portal. Do not attempt to use a screenshot of an already-scanned code because it will not work.

Can I generate my own eSIM QR code?

No. eSIM QR codes can only be generated by licensed mobile network operators because they require a valid SM-DP+ server address and a carrier-issued activation token. Third-party QR code generators, including QR-Build, cannot create functional eSIM activation codes. What you can create is a QR code that links to your eSIM activation guide or provisioning portal.

How do I scan an eSIM QR code on iPhone?

Open Settings, tap Cellular or Mobile Data, then tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan. Tap Use QR Code, point your camera at the carrier-issued eSIM QR code, and follow the on-screen prompts. The process typically completes in under two minutes.

How do I scan an eSIM QR code on Android?

Open Settings, go to Network & Internet or Connections, then open SIM cards, SIM Manager, or Mobile Network. Tap Add eSIM or Download a SIM, then scan the QR code or enter the activation code manually. Samsung and Google Pixel devices use slightly different labels, but the activation flow is similar.

Is it safe to share an eSIM QR code?

No. You should never share your eSIM QR code with anyone because it contains carrier activation credentials for your phone line. Treat it like a password or banking PIN. If you suspect the code was exposed, contact your carrier immediately to invalidate it.

What is the difference between eSIM and a physical SIM?

A physical SIM is a removable card that stores your carrier credentials and must be inserted into your device. An eSIM is a digital SIM profile stored on a chip inside your device and activated remotely via a QR code or activation code from your carrier. eSIMs make it easier to add or switch plans without changing a physical card.

How do businesses distribute eSIM QR codes to employees?

Businesses typically do not distribute the carrier-issued activation QR codes directly because those codes are unique per line and single-use. IT administrators distribute a QR code that links to the eSIM setup guide, MDM enrollment instructions, or the carrier business activation portal. A dynamic QR code from QR-Build is useful because the destination can be updated without reprinting.

Can I transfer my eSIM to a new phone using a QR code?

Yes, but your carrier usually must issue a new QR code for the transfer. iPhone supports eSIM Quick Transfer in some carrier-supported cases, but Android or cross-carrier transfers commonly require a new activation code. Contact the carrier before wiping the old device.

SM-DP+ stands for Subscription Manager Data Preparation Plus. It is the remote provisioning server operated by your mobile carrier that stores your eSIM profile and delivers it to your device when you scan the activation QR code. The eSIM QR code encodes the SM-DP+ server address and a one-time activation token.

Why does my eSIM QR code say already used?

The already used error means the activation token in your QR code has already been consumed by a prior activation attempt or by a device you already set up. Contact your carrier to request a new QR code. The carrier will invalidate the old token and issue a fresh one.

Where is the eSIM QR code on my iPhone?

An iPhone does not store the original eSIM QR code you received because the QR code is a one-time activation key, not a reusable file. If you need the QR code again for a new device, log in to your carrier account or contact carrier support. Your installed eSIM profile is visible in Settings under Cellular or Mobile Data.

Can I use a screenshot of an eSIM QR code?

You can scan a screenshot of an eSIM QR code if the activation has not been completed yet and the image is clear. If the code has already been used, a screenshot will produce an already activated or invalid code error. Use the original unused code whenever possible.

What is an eSIM activation code and how does it relate to the QR code?

An eSIM activation code is the text-string equivalent of the eSIM QR code. It contains the same SM-DP+ address and activation token in a format you can type manually instead of scanning. Use manual entry when your camera is unavailable or the QR image cannot be scanned.

How to Get an eSIM QR Code in 2026

An eSIM QR code is issued by your mobile carrier when you activate an eSIM plan on your account. To get one, log in to your carrier's website or app, navigate to your device or plan settings, and locate the eSIM section to download or display your activation QR code. If you've lost it, contact your carrier's support team to request a new activation code because each one can only be used once.

What Do You Need Before Getting an eSIM QR Code?

A carrier account with an active eSIM-capable phone line.
Access to your carrier website, carrier app, or customer support channel.
A compatible iPhone or Android device with eSIM support.
A stable Wi-Fi connection during activation.
Five minutes for retrieval and under two minutes for most scans.
For business workflows, a setup guide URL, MDM enrollment page, or carrier portal link.

What Is an eSIM QR Code?

An eSIM QR code is a machine-readable code issued by a mobile carrier that encodes an SM-DP+ server address and a one-time activation token. When scanned on a compatible device, it downloads and installs an eSIM profile over the air, replacing the need for a physical SIM card. The QR code is unique to your account and can only be used once.

What data does an eSIM QR code encode?

An eSIM, or Embedded SIM, is a digital SIM profile stored on a chip inside a device instead of a removable plastic card. An eSIM QR code normally contains an SM-DP+ address and an activation token. SM-DP+ means Subscription Manager Data Preparation Plus, which is the carrier-operated remote provisioning server that stores and delivers the eSIM profile. eSIM QR codes are a specialized member of the broader types of QR codes family, but they are not interchangeable with marketing, Wi-Fi, payment, or URL QR codes.

Why are eSIM QR codes carrier-issued and single-use?

eSIM QR codes are issued by mobile network operators because only carriers can provision the SIM profile and authorize a phone line on their network. The activation token is consumed when the device contacts the carrier's SM-DP+ server, so scanning the same code again usually returns an already used or invalid code error. Treat an eSIM activation QR code like a password because it can authorize service on a phone line.

How Do You Get Your eSIM QR Code Step by Step?

To get an eSIM QR code, log in to your carrier's website or app, choose the line or device you want to activate, and open the eSIM or SIM management section. The carrier portal will either display the QR code, provide a downloadable image, or ask support to issue a new activation code. Verify carrier interface labels on the vendor's website because menus change.

Log in to your carrier account

Visit your carrier's website or open the carrier app and sign in with the account that owns the phone line.

Select the device or phone line

Open Account, Lines, Devices, or Manage Device, then choose the line you want to activate with eSIM.

Sign in to My Verizon online or open the My Verizon app.
Go to Devices, Manage Device, and select the target line.
Open the eSIM or activation section for that Verizon line.
Display the Verizon eSIM QR code or contact Verizon support if the original code is expired.

If you've lost your eSIM QR code, contact your carrier's customer support to request a new activation code because the original code is invalidated after use. Do not attempt to scan a used or expired code, as it will not activate. Most carriers can reissue an eSIM QR code through support chat, phone support, or the account portal.

Ask the carrier to invalidate the old activation token and issue a new one.
Do not share screenshots of the old QR code while troubleshooting.
Use the new QR code only on the device and line the carrier assigned.

Can You Generate an eSIM QR Code Yourself?

No, eSIM QR codes can only be generated by licensed mobile network operators because they must contain a valid SM-DP+ server address and a carrier-issued activation token. Third-party tools cannot create functional eSIM activation codes. However, you can use QR-Build to create a QR code that links to an eSIM setup guide, activation portal URL, or onboarding document for distribution purposes.

QR-Build is a QR code generator for creating and managing standard QR codes, including dynamic QR codes that point to URLs, PDFs, forms, and onboarding pages. QR-Build does not generate carrier-issued eSIM activation codes and does not store eSIM profiles, SIM credentials, or carrier secrets. The practical business use case is a distribution layer: the carrier handles activation, while QR-Build helps teams deliver the instructions, support pages, and portal links people need to complete activation.

I need to...	Use...	Why
Get my personal eSIM QR code	Your carrier's app or website	Only the carrier can issue the activation token for your phone line.
Replace a lost eSIM QR code	Carrier support	The carrier must invalidate the old token and issue a new one.
Distribute eSIM setup instructions to employees	QR-Build dynamic QR code to an onboarding URL	The instructions can be updated without reprinting badges, cards, or welcome kits.
Create a branded QR for customer eSIM activation	QR-Build dynamic QR code to an activation portal	Telecom resellers and MVNOs can keep customer-facing packaging stable while updating destination pages.
Track how many people opened an eSIM guide	QR-Build scan analytics	Scan analytics show whether customers or employees reached the onboarding page.
Update an eSIM guide URL after printing	QR-Build dynamic QR code	A dynamic redirect can be edited while the printed QR code remains the same.

Methodology note: This decision framework separates carrier provisioning from QR distribution. Pricing, portal labels, and feature availability should be verified on each vendor's website as of 2026.

Create a Dynamic QR Code for eSIM Onboarding

Point a branded QR code to your eSIM setup guide, carrier portal, PDF, or MDM instructions. QR-Build manages the link layer, not the carrier activation credential.

How Do Businesses Use QR Codes for eSIM Distribution?

Businesses do not distribute the carrier-issued eSIM activation QR code directly because those codes are single-use and personal to each employee's line. Instead, IT administrators distribute a link to the eSIM setup guide, MDM enrollment instructions, or carrier activation portal via email, intranet, packaging, or a dynamic QR code. QR-Build allows teams to wrap the onboarding URL in a trackable, updatable QR code.

Who Needs an eSIM QR Code Workflow?

IT admins deploying corporate fleets
In workflows we've seen IT teams use, the carrier issues individual eSIM profiles while IT publishes one QR code that points to an internal setup guide. That guide can include MDM, or Mobile Device Management, enrollment steps and escalation contacts.
Telecom resellers and MVNOs
An MVNO, or Mobile Virtual Network Operator, can use QR-Build to send customers to a branded activation guide or support portal while the carrier system issues the actual eSIM activation QR code.
Travel SIM providers
A travel eSIM seller can print one QR code on packaging that links to country-specific activation instructions, troubleshooting, and portal login pages instead of reprinting each time the guide changes.
SMB owners switching teams to eSIM
A business owner can place a QR code in a phone handoff checklist so employees can open the current eSIM instructions, verify their carrier line, and contact support from one page.

Static vs. Dynamic QR Codes for eSIM Workflows

A static QR code encodes a fixed URL that cannot be changed after creation, so a moved eSIM guide can break the printed code. A dynamic QR code stores a redirect URL that can be updated without reprinting, making it the better choice for eSIM onboarding workflows that change over time. Dynamic QR codes can also provide scan analytics for onboarding visibility.

Workflow factor	Static QR code	Dynamic QR code
Destination changes	A static QR code cannot change its encoded URL after creation.	A dynamic QR code lets an IT administrator update the destination URL without reprinting.
Support documentation	A static QR code works only when the guide URL is permanent.	A dynamic QR code is suitable when the eSIM guide, portal, or PDF may change.
Scan analytics	A static QR code does not provide QR-Build scan analytics.	A dynamic QR code can show how many employees or customers accessed the eSIM onboarding page.
Printed materials	A static QR code requires reprinting if the destination is wrong.	A dynamic QR code keeps badges, inserts, and packaging usable after destination updates.

Source and methodology: We compared QR behavior against the practical needs of eSIM onboarding teams as of 2026. For a deeper technical comparison, see static vs. dynamic QR code and review QR-Build plan details for analytics and other paid features.

What Common eSIM QR Code Mistakes Should You Avoid?

The most common eSIM QR code mistakes are scanning an already-used code, sharing the code publicly, confusing it with a normal URL QR code, and trying to generate a carrier activation code with a third-party tool. eSIM QR codes contain sensitive activation credentials, so the correct fix is often to request a new code from the carrier.

Scanning an already-used code

An already-used activation token has been consumed by the carrier's SM-DP+ server and cannot activate a second device.

Sharing an activation QR code

Treat the QR code like a password because the first compatible device to scan it may activate service on your line.

Using the wrong screenshot

A screenshot can work only if the code is unused; a screenshot of an expired or consumed code will still fail.

Confusing eSIM with Wi-Fi QR codes

An eSIM QR code activates a cellular profile, while a Wi-Fi QR code shares network login details.

Trying to generate carrier credentials

A third-party QR tool can create a link QR code, but it cannot create a valid carrier activation token.

Skipping carrier verification

Carrier portals change frequently, so verify activation labels and pricing on the carrier's website before relying on a saved workflow.

What Are the Best Practices for eSIM QR Code Management?

Individuals should store unused eSIM QR codes securely and request a new code from the carrier when transferring devices. Businesses should distribute setup instructions rather than the carrier-issued activation QR code itself. QR-Build can be used to track and update the QR code that points to the onboarding page.

For individuals

Save unused activation details securely, do not share screenshots, and use a trusted Wi-Fi connection during activation.

For IT administrators

Use a dynamic QR code for the guide or MDM enrollment page, then keep carrier-issued activation credentials inside approved carrier or MDM systems.

For resellers and travel SIM providers

Create a branded QR code to the activation portal, add support steps for T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and other carriers where relevant, and monitor scan analytics for friction.

How Was This eSIM QR Code Guide Written?

This guide was produced by the QR-Build team based on direct review of eSIM activation flows across major US carriers and public remote SIM provisioning documentation. We tested consumer-facing paths for T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon at a workflow level and separated carrier-issued activation from QR-Build's dynamic QR distribution layer. Carrier labels and availability should be verified on each vendor's website as of 2026.

Carrier portal review

We reviewed how T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon expose eSIM activation through account, device, and line management flows. We avoid promising exact labels because carrier interfaces change.

Technical standard review

We mapped the explanation to the GSMA remote SIM provisioning architecture, including SM-DP+ and SGP.22 terminology. See the GSMA eSIM information page for the standards body context.

Product limitation review

QR-Build does not generate carrier eSIM codes because only licensed mobile network operators have access to SM-DP+ provisioning servers. QR-Build is used for URL, PDF, link list, form, and other standard QR code destinations.

What eSIM QR Code Terms Should You Know?

The most important eSIM QR code terms are eSIM, SM-DP+, activation token, carrier portal, dynamic QR code, static QR code, MDM, and MVNO. These terms explain the difference between carrier provisioning and QR-based distribution workflows.
